As someone who cares about health care in your community, you may be interested to know there are many ways to make an impact. Together with people like you, we can create a healthier Hawaii — and it all starts with a gift.
You can now initiate a grant recommendation from your donor advised fund, or DAF, by clicking the link below and typing in your fund provider name. The system will prompt you through the process.
If you want to make an immediate impact, consider the tax-wise way of giving through a direct transfer of funds from an IRA to any of our four medical centers. Here’s how it works:
- You must be 70 ½ or older.
- An individual may transfer up to a total of $100,000 per year and a married couple may give up to $200,000;
- Your gift must be transferred directly from the IRA account to the foundation of your choosing.
- Your gift is a transfer of funds from your IRA to our foundations, so it does not create taxable income for you and is not considered a charitable tax deduction.
- The transfer of funds counts towards your annual Required Minimum Distribution from your IRA.

A memorial or tribute gift to our foundations is a meaningful way to express your love, admiration and gratitude for someone special. Your gift will honor your loved one, create a lasting tribute and transform health care in Hawaii for generations to come. What a touching way to show you care.
An endowment is a gift of money or property that will support the work of the medical center for years to come to improve health care in our communities. This kind of gift will have an impact over a longer period of time because the principal is kept intact while the investment income is used for ongoing programs and services. There are various types of endowments that you can set up, each with specific advantages. If you want to make a lasting impact this might be the right giving method for you.
You can donate appreciated real estate, such as a home, vacation property, undeveloped land, farmland, a ranch or commercial property. This is an easy and effective way to fund a gift that will ensure that people in Hawaii receive great care when they need it, close to home.
What’s more, you can leave this generous gift while you continue to use the property throughout your lifetime, and you may receive a tax deduction for your gift.
Stocks, bonds and mutual funds that have appreciated in value are among the best ways to transform health care for Hawaii. You may receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full market value of the stock (up to a maximum of 30% of your adjusted gross income) and avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the value of the stock.
You can create an effective legacy gift with donations of business interests such as stock in a closely held corporation, S-corporation stock and shares in a professional corporation. When you give this special gift, you receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the shares without capital gains liability. You can even use the shares to fund a legacy gift that will pay you income for life.
You can fund a gift by transferring paintings, antiques, collectibles or other items of personal property. In doing this, you receive an immediate tax deduction for the appraised value of your gift and avoid capital gains tax (if your gift satisfies the related use requirements of the IRS). You can even use your gift of personal property to fund a legacy gift that will pay you income for life.
A donation of cash is the most direct way to create a healthier Hawaii now and for years to come. You benefit from a charitable tax credit while you have an immediate impact on the health of individuals, families and communities throughout Hawaii.
